“And Edgar will be safe with you?” Thor pressed.
“Of course.” She laughed. “Denisha take good care of da boy. When he come back he be a mon.” She smiled and ruffed Edgar’s hair.
“Edgar, I think it would be better for you if I were not there,” Thor said.
Edgar nodded. “All right,” he conceded hesitantly.
“I will pay you when you return him safely to me,” Thor said, turning his attention to Denisha. “I will be in the tavern.”
“You not trust Denisha take care of Edgar?” She laughed. “Dat okay. I will take such good care a him he will want stay Jamaica forever.”
“Be sure you do,” Thor said.
“Edgar, if you are sure you want to do this…”
Edgar nodded again, this time a little more eagerly.
“I’ll be waiting for you.” Thor pointed to the tavern. He watched as Denisha put her arm around Edgar’s shoulders and steered him toward a side entrance to the building. She looked back over her shoulder at Thor and said with a laugh, “He be fine. No worry, sailor mon. He be fine.”
