Thor then faced the crew. “Go now and make your decision. Decide which of you wants to put yourself forward as captain, or who you would support if they should put themselves forward. We will hold the election at the start of the first dog watch.”
The crew slowly broke up and, murmuring among themselves, went about their assigned duties. Thor turned to thank Iakob, and ask if he had made up his mind. But the old seaman and Ezekiel were already engaged in animated conversation with members of the crew. Thor surmised Iakob was arguing Thor’s case with those that still held objections. Edgar placed a hand on Thor’s shoulder then went to the quarterdeck to take the wheel.
Seth came up to Thor. “You are still sure you want to do this?” He looked over at the crew. “They want you to stay.”
Thor put his arms around his man’s waist. “I am sure.”
