Chapter 12

Last year before Christmas, Jay, Olivia, and I all went out for drinks at a club that had live jazz. Jay asked Olivia to dance with him during one of the slower songs and, surprisingly, she did. Granted, she??d had a few glasses of wine when she agreed, but I was still shocked. Seeing them together made me happy. Despite their incompatibility in life, they looked perfectly matched on the dance floor. When Jay twirled Olivia around and pulled her into his arms, I actually saw her crack a smile and I thought for sure he was wearing her down. I was confident they??d grow closer and become friends, but of course that didn??t happen. They hated each other more than ever and could barely stand to be in the same room together.

It was after one in the morning when Jay and I finally made it back to our hotel room.

??That was a lot of fun,?? he said, removing his tuxedo jacket.

??It wasa lot of fun,?? I agreed. ??I liked watching you dance with the ladies.??
