??You go to the gym five days a week.??

??No. I tellyou I go to the gym five days a week. Some days, I don??t make it.??

Ever since I??d known Jay, he??d been adamant about his daily gym workouts. Because he was on the news for the evening broadcasts at five, six, and eleven, he had the weekday mornings free to work out and, most mornings, he did. Or at least I thoughthe did. I was teaching morning classes all semester, so I really had no idea if he was working out or not.

??What have you been doing the mornings you haven??t been working out???

He frowned. ??You don??t want to know.??

I assumed that meant he??d been sitting on his ass at home eating pancakes and watching daytime television. (He was a big fan of ??The People??s Court.??)

??You??ll get back on track,?? I assured him.

??I??d better. No one wants a fat weatherman.??
