By that time, Styge had decided Caiden was probably safer than Theirn and jumped into his lap. Caiden petted him, saying, “I’m off tomorrow.”

Theirn grinned evilly. “I know. I’ve lined up a few furniture stores we’re going to visit.”

“No way!”

“Yep. It’s part of our charade. We don’t have to buy anything, but we’re for sure going to act as if we’re thinking about it. The chances are no one gives a damn, but we don’t know that.”

“You’re right. While there’s really no way Leander can know Cale Masters is me, he might know the gallery, and be doing his own thing as far as planning to grab something—if he’s found a buyer on his own.”

“Exactly.”

“Or, he could be, probably is, anywhere between L. A. and New York, planning a theft.”

“If so, then we have to hope he hears through the grapevine that Styles is looking for someone to get the painting.”

“And contacts him. Well, we won’t know until it happens, if it does, so I guess I’m doomed to go furniture shopping.” 15
