Theirn immediately sobered. “I will be,” he replied. “You be careful, too. Stay well out of sight until he’s in here.”

“I almost wish he wouldsee me,” Caiden said. “And come after me. I owe him.”

“He would flee first,” Gerben told him, “because he’d know it was a trap.”

“True.” Caiden and Theirn looked at each other for a long moment, then Caiden hugged him quickly before saying, “Go out there and play at being a pedestal. As soon as you’re set, let me know, and I’ll rearm the system. Gerben, I’ll meet you across the street.”

Theirn left, and within a couple of minutes said, ::I’m ready.:: Caiden relayed the message to Gerben, reminding Theirn to open a link to the shifter as well. Then Gerben vanished, Caiden went to the panel at the back door, turned on the security and left, locking the door behind him.

“Now, we wait, and pray Leander shows tonight,” Caiden said when he joined Gerben in the parking garage level of the building opposite the gallery.
