Chapter 7

Zeb said, “Curtis saves Billings’ life numerous times. He proves to the man that they are meant to be together.”

“Sounds interesting.”

“It does,” he agreed. “I think it will do better than Mister Eye.”

I sort of chuckled. “You have a thing for eyes, don’t you?”

“What can I say?” he asked, shrugging. “It runs in my family.”

We toasted to his working novel, our field trip out of the office, and to a safe trip back to the city.

Following our pizza date, we returned to Pittsburgh. Zeb let me drive his Buick in the continuous rain, which I became thrilled about since I drove a Chevy Spark. His Buick was twice the size of my vehicle, and I loved being behind its wheel, having all of its six cylinders in my hands.

There was no better time to bring up Zeb’s activities with Aaron in the back room of the boutique, since it bothered me some. So I cut to the chase.

“Is Aaron Fairendale your boyfriend?”

He almost choked on his own saliva, laughing. “Fuck no.”
