“Enjoy your first day, and don’t let John influence you too much.” Tobie grinned as he waved Lee and me out of his office. As Lee opened the door ahead of me, I turned back briefly to give Tobie the finger. He chuckled as I closed the door.

When I entered the break room around lunchtime, Lee was on the phone with someone. I started to leave but he waved me in.
“Isn’t it early for you to be up?” I heard him say as I opened the refrigerator to get my leftover pasta.
“Well, that’s sweet of you, but you should go back to bed. I’ll be fine, Wei. The big, bad corporate world is treating me nicely.” I put the plastic container in the microwave to heat up.
“Love you, too.” He hung up. “Sorry about that.”
I shrugged. “Didn’t mean to eavesdrop.”
“It’s okay. Wei works late nights and he loves his sleep. He’s usually in bed until two o’clock in the afternoon.” Lee took a bite of the burrito he was having for lunch.
