Chapter 30

“It couldn’t be any colder if you said ‘To Whom it May Concern’. Yeah, that works. Short and to the point. So send it.”

Daniel hit ‘Send’ then leaned back, looking up at Griffin. “I wonder if he’ll respond?”

“Hard to tell.” Griffin ruffled Daniel’s hair. “Now pack up the laptop if it’s fully charged and let’s get a move on. It’s getting late and I don’t relish the idea of riding back in the pitch dark.”

Daniel put the laptop in its carry bag, slinging it over his shoulder, then they went back out to where they’d left the bike. The sun was beginning to lower behind the trees, casting lengthening shadows on the snowy lawn. For a moment, he considered suggesting they spend the night at the house, but with no heat, that didn’t seem like a smart idea. And I wouldn’t sleep anyway for wondering if the bastard was around somewhere plotting another ‘accidental’ fire—or worse.
