Chapter 34

“We’re almost home, believe it or not. Then I’ll set you down in front of the fire, wrap you in blankets, and feed you chicken noodle soup.”

“That sounds wonderful,” Daniel replied between chattering teeth.

Half an hour later, give or take, Daniel was bundled up with a cup of soup in his hands, while Griffin fixed supper, having told Daniel they were not going to talk about Ray and what had happened until after they ate.

“That smells good. What is it?” Daniel asked.

“Venison stew.”

“Oh.”

“Don’t sound so enthusiastic.”

“Honestly, right now, I could probably eat squirrel if it was on the menu.”

Without batting an eye, Griffin replied, “That’s tomorrow night.”

“Then I’m eating in town.”

“Actually,” Griffin told him, while getting out bowls for the stew, “You’re not going anywhere near town, or your house, until we figure out what to do about Ray.”
