“Because he wasn’t trying to hurt you. Run your life, yeah, from what you said, but that was it—until you walked out. Between that, and his idea that the house would make a great place for another of his fancy restaurants, perhaps he did begin hating you.” Griffin took another bite of stew. “He had to know you’d never go along with his plans—especially after he came to the house and you threw him out.”

“But that was afterI started getting, premonitions, I guess you could call them.”

“His thug was watching you from the time you moved in, according to what you said he told you.”

“True.” Daniel frowned. “Why didn’t I get some sort of premonition his thug was there the night he delivered the contract? Okay, I take that back. I did. I woke up knowing something was wrong. Just not soon enough to do anything about it. The same with today. I knew something was off but not until the last second.”
