Chapter 40

Griffin turned his back to Ray as he put the bow down. Daniel forced himself not to react when he saw Griffin slide one of the arrows up his sleeve before turning back.

When they both were seated, Ray sneered. “You traded down, Danny boy. He’s hardly my caliber. But then your taste in most things, other than me, was always pretty lousy. One look at the crap you call your art confirms that.”

“No. Being with you was an anomaly,” Daniel replied angrily. “That was the only time my taste, as you put it, was bad, you conceited, egotistical bastard.”

“Daniel,” Griffin said quietly, putting his hand on Daniel’s thigh.

“What? I can’t tell him what I think of him before he tries to kill me?”

“Tries being the operative word,” Griffin said, turning his gaze to Ray. “For someone who’s supposedly smart enough to run a string of high-class restaurants, you’re pretty stupid when it comes to other things, Ray. And, if I may say so, you’re also a damned sore loser.”
