Chapter 39

“Which way are we heading?” Daniel asked when they were outside and Griffin had locked up.

“That way.” Griffin pointed to a steep, tree-covered slope to the left of the cabin.

“Going to make me get my exercise, too, huh?” Daniel said with rueful smile.

“You bet.”

They climbed to the top of the slope, then Griffin stopped, scanning the area before taking off up another one, working his way through the trees with Daniel right beside him.

Daniel glanced behind them and frowned. “You do realize we’re leaving a trail. If Ray did follow us to the cabin, he’ll see our footprints.

“That’s the plan,” Griffin replied.

“Hang on. I thought we were hunting, not being the hunted,” Daniel said tightly.’’

“We’re doing both. I do need more rabbit so we’re killing two birds with one stone.”

“We might end up beingthe birds,” Daniel muttered.

“Nope. I’m relying on your premonitions to let us know if he’s anywhere close.”
