Five other potential cryptozoology campers were in the orientation meeting, which took place on the porch of AWTY’s headquarters. AWTY was more than just a camping tour; there was a museum of cryptozoological relics in a multi-colored, faux Himalayan-style building. The campground offered a wide variety of classes, from How to Identify the Unknown to fairly standard beginning photography and journalism classes—somewhat cheaper, Scott noted, than his classes at college had been, and probably offering more in the way of in the field experience. Of course, one end of the compound included the traditional gift shop. Scott had even noted, with dubiously raised eyebrows, the recently added day spa and massage parlor.
