Chapter 32

It was too good to be true. Everything Ward had ever wanted—had dreamed about since he’d fallen in love with Tyler in high school—could just be happening. Ward had been right not to put pressure on Tyler, to just let things play out as they would, and to allow Tyler to come to this point on his own.

Was the next step some sort of living arrangement? Maybe he could move in with Tyler and then, at some future time, move all of them out here to the farm. Whatever path it took was all right with Ward at this moment. It would be Tyler’s decision. He would let Tyler make the suggestion. It’d worked that way so far, why shouldn’t it again? He’d waited ten years; he could wait a little longer. With that thought, he drifted off to sleep.

The next morning Joe and Ward were in the milk house assembling the milk machines.

“Guess what?” Joe asked.

“You figured out which shoe goes on which foot?” Ward teased.

“Shut up! No, I think Zeta and Teller are gonna be momma and daddy.”
