Chapter 8

“How often have you been here?”

“Hmm.” Jude tugged his bottom lip with his teeth. “Fairly often. I’m not much of a cook. Most of my dinners consist of microwave dinners, so whenever I want a real meal I usually find myself here or at Vic’s. But Adam only opens for breakfast and lunch.”

Rex thought about the diner owner for a second. He was fairly certain Adam was gay, also, and he was certainly a good-looking man, even if he was perhaps a bit too old for Jude. For that matter, Rex probably was, too. But he wondered why Jude didn’t seem interested in Adam. Rex preferred pretty boys like Jude himself.

The waitress came and Rex ordered a glass of red wine and Jude ordered ale.

He recalled hearing a rumor about Jude when he started asking around about him after seeing him at Vic’s.

“I’ve heard around Sutter’s Bay that you came here after a bad break-up.”
