“I can’t. I’m pretty busy the whole weekend.”
“Oh.” Mark tried to push the disappointment away. Okay, so Drew was busy. He opened his mouth to ask what Drew would be doing.
“Sorry, Mark, I really have to go. My mom’s calling me. Talk to you later.”
“Sure—”
But Drew had already hung up. 8
Mark opened the door of Betty’s Souvenirs, greeted by the tinkling of bells overhead. It was only Tuesday, but he’d chosen to come because he didn’t want to give Drew the opportunity to leave another message with Hazel telling him not to come.
He noted Drew’s car in the parking lot before he parked himself.
“Welcome to Betty’s, can I help…oh, hello,” Betty herself said when she heard him come in. She smiled. “How are you, Mark?”
“Pretty good, how are you?”
“Can’t complain. Drew’s in the back. I’ll get him for you.”
“Thanks, I appreciate it.”
