Chapter 16

Mark resisted slamming down the phone on his desk with effort. Friday morning and Drew still hadn’t answered his calls or called him back.

Tuesday when Drew hadn’t called him back he hadn’t really thought too much about it. He’d been busy with work himself so hadn’t really given it consideration. Even Wednesday when his secretary had relayed the message not to come for coffee, Mark had still dismissed it as nothing.

But now that Drew ignored him Thursday as well and now again Friday, Mark was growing concerned. He would try one more time in the afternoon and if he still couldn’t reach Drew, he planned to go to Newport Beach to find him.

At the tap on his door, he said, “Come in.”

Travis Anderson, one of his two law partners, came in. He approached the desk and handed a file to Mark. “This is that construction company we talked about yesterday.”

“Right, thanks.”

“You look like hell,” Travis said.

Mark grimaced. “Thanks.”
