Chapter 11

“If they’re doing their job, they will. And when someone mentions seeing you at several of the events, and that you’re new to the city…” Armand lifted an eyebrow knowingly.

“But I’m innocent, officer. I have an alibi for the times of the robberies.”

“Not tonight, you don’t,” Armand pointed out.

Tino grinned. “Of course I do. I was with you.”

Armand pulled back in surprise. “Now just what makes you think I’ll agree to say that?”

“Because neither of us wants the humans to know vampires exist. If you don’t alibi me, and they arrest me there will be two outcomes. I’ll vanish before they cuff me, which will definitely let them know I’m not human. Or they’ll toss me in jail then try to take me to court, at which point the sunlight will do its job and no more me. Again a clear indication I’m a vampire, although an outcome I’d rather not have happen.”

“You do make a valid argument for my telling anyone who asks that we were together, except—people saw you tonight, alone.”
