He was torn between dismay at the hugs he’d witnessed, and the thought that Luke was getting more involved with Jourdain—which he might be able to put to use.

I will put it to use. If I can convince Luke that Jourdain is more than he seems and needs to be eliminated. The boy is the only one who can safely get close enough to him to do that—if he willing to let that happen. From the look of it, he seems to be falling under Jourdain’s thrall. Damn, what happened to my idea that I should keep it from happening?

He knew the answer to that, as much as he hated himself for even considering it.
