“Because…Because it’s not…It’s not…” Luke stuttered to a stop.

“Not possible? Then Jourdain wouldn’t be possible, either. Right?”

“Right,” Luke whispered. He got up, walking to the windows looking out over the field behind the house. Turning back, he asked, “If you are one, which I find very hard to believe, then Kelan was too. Why didn’t he teleport away before…Okay, never mind. Jourdain had him in his thrall by then.”

“Even if Jourdain hadn’t, Kelan is completely human so he doesn’t have our abilities.”

“But he’s your half-brother.”

“Step-brother. Remember? A year or so after my mother died, my father met Kelan’s mother. She was a widow, with one small son. Kelan. They fell in love, got married, and were very happy together up until her death.”

“Did she know your father was a shifter? I mean, I presume he was or you wouldn’t be. Right? Well, if what you’re telling me is the truth.”
