Chapter 38

“Do we have dressing for the salad?” Luke asked, after making patties and putting them in a frying pan to cook.

“We?” Finn joined him.

“Sorry. You.”

“I like ‘we’, and yes, wedo.” Finn dug through the fridge, smiling triumphantly when he found the bottle buried in the back. “You finish cooking. I’ll deal with the salad.”

“You’re supposed to be relaxing,” Luke scolded.

“Watching you isrelaxing, in my book.”

Luke turned away, flushing red as he flipped the burgers.

A few moments later he had them in buns, on the plates he’d set out. Finn served up the salad and they took their meals to the dining table. Luke sat, then immediately jumped up again. “Water? Umm…” He checked the fridge, again. “Beer?”

“Beer sounds good.”

Luke handed him one, then started to get himself water, when Finn said, “You can have a beer, if you want. I promise I won’t tell the authorities.”

“I’ve never…”

“Seriously?”

“Uh-huh.” Luke took out a beer. “No drugs. No alcohol.” He opened the beer warily.
