“One thing you need to understand,” Owen told him. “Under no conditions are you to leave the house after you talk to him. Being a vampire, Jourdain won’t be able to get in here without an invitation. That holds true for any other vampire he brings with him.”
“If he does.”
“Yeah. It’s fifty-fifty. So you remain here, no matter what happens. Understand?”
“Yes, sir.” Taking a deep breath, Luke made the call. After four rings, it went to Jourdain’s voicemail. “Jourdain, if you’re there, for God’s sake pick up. I need you,” Luke said, infusing panic into his words. Jourdain didn’t respond.
With a sigh, Luke hung up. “I’ll try again in ten minutes.” He started to pace, muttering, “This is going to drive me up a wall if he doesn’t answer next time.”
“I suspect he will,” Finn said, putting his hands on Luke’s shoulders to stop him. “Whether he believes your message, or figures it’s a trap, he’ll want to speak with you.”
