“Yes. He’d use you to draw me out, at which point—”
“He’d make you sacrifice your life to save Luke’s,” Owen stated.
“He’d try, but since he won’t be able to get his hands on Luke, that point is moot.”
“Maybe I should hide in the basement,” Luke said.
“The same problem,” Finn replied. “There are windows. No, you’re safer up here.” He smiled. “Read a book to keep occupied.”
“Uh-huh. I don’t think that will work. Tae can entertain me. Maybe.” He patted the dog’s head, but his gaze was locked on Finn. “You should go do—whatever you and Owen have planned. The sooner this is over…”
“We’re going.” Finn cupped Luke’s face in his hands. “I’ll be back before you know it.” He stroked the pad of his thumb over Luke’s lips then kissed him gently. “Read to Tae,” he said, stepping back a moment later. Then, with a grin and a wink, he and Owen left the office.
