“No alibi—except that she was at Yolks on You for a while on the night of the Haunted Halloween House party, corrupting Chad. I wonder why she didn’t mention that.”

“I asked her about the murder,” said Dom. “That was the morning. Wait, corrupting Chad? I thought that was my job.”

Dom laughed.

“That kid has no brain. He like college? Get a girlfriend yet?”

“Get a boyfriend yet?” asked Dom, and when Kiko sighed against him Dom realized he felt more at home than he had anywhere else, with anyone else. He almost laughed at himself. It had to be the alcohol. He loved Kiko, but part of him was worried whenever Travis brought up settling down.

“I think I would’ve heard about that.”

“Hey boss, like, how do I tell my mom?” asked Dom. He could almost feel Kiko smile into his shoulder.
