Chapter 46

“We were until today.”

“You wouldn’t have told me to stay out, then?” demanded Dom.

Kiko glared. “Of course I would have told you to,” he said. “And I’d expect you to not listen to me, per usual. Don’t get pissy that you can’t control me.”

Dom forced himself to take a breath. He hated arguing. He hated other people witnessing him arguing more, though, labeling him the dramatic gay guy. Invalidating his anger. He wanted a way out of this; maybe if they stopped now, they wouldn’t need to revisit it at all.

“I don’t want to control you,” he began. Kiko’s eyes flared.

“Hah,” he said, such a bitter exclamation that Dom lost the hard-earned calm he’d just managed.

“You’re wrong, Kiko. You shouldn’t have—”

“Where’s Chad?” asked Kiko. He turned away from Dom, who couldn’t tell if Kiko was tired of arguing, too, or wanted to piss Dom off more. Maybe a bit of both. Dom gritted his teeth, pushed off from the wall.

“He was right in front of me,” he said. He moved to help Kiko dig.
