Chapter 45

Kiko’s mind was jumping. He realized he’d completely believed Dom to be dead the moment the call had dropped. He moved forward, less careful, opening his mouth to shout at Dom.

But the loft had been off-limits for a reason. It was old, it was unstable, and it was now holding at least a dozen full-grown people, more pushing up the stairs. The entire structure shook with the commotion and then, having reached its limit, gave way.

Kiko watched beams and boards and screaming people fall right in front of him. Right on top of Chad and Dom. His stomach flopped. He froze. Time seemed to hold for a moment, that instant between fine and chaos, and he could only stare.
