Chapter 49

“Haven’t I told you this town is weird?”

Kiko snorted, wanted to rub Dom’s palm but decided against it. It would hurt more than soothe.

“Obviously whoever did it wants to live to shoot another day.” Kiko paused. “Shit.”

“Karen’s funeral?”

“I doubt it,” said Kiko, thinking. “But the parade tomorrow…Maybe we should tell the cops.”

“The ones that might be the killer?”

“Dom,” said Kiko, turning to look at him. “It’s not Gordon.”

“You said Karen said it was a man. That leaves Gordon or Owen.”

“Or someone else, and I might be misremembering.”

“Look, I don’t like this,” said Dom. Kiko kissed him lightly on the neck.

“I don’t either. But if we can figure this out, I’m calling the police.” Dom’s sigh told him he was all right with that. “What did you learn from Danielle?”

“Not much,” said Dom. “She and Anna were friends in middle school. She didn’t seem to be sure one way or the other that Anna would kill her.”
