“You started it. Flirting in public. Telling me I should fit my head in your—”

“Think of the children, my dear Holmes,” said Dom, shoving the pipe in his mouth. “According to my hawk-like vision, we are due for a group of them at any moment.”

Kiko glanced at movement at the edge of the parking lot and saw Dom was right. He finished mixing the candy together and checked on Mother. These first children were polite enough and on their way again, leaving him and Dom to sink to the folding chairs and try to pass the time.

“We’re just sitting here,” said Dom, digging through the candy until he found something he wanted. He unwrapped it. “There’s a murderer out there, and we’re just sitting here. Smiling at children.”

“You make my day job sound terrible,” said Kiko, shooting Dom a glare as he dug out another piece.

“It’s your night job, too.”

“Don’t sound so bitter.” Kiko watched Dom dig through the candy again, give up. “You could offer to help out any time you want.”
