Chapter 69

As if that wasn’t bad enough, waking drenched in sweat made him feel even more trapped. He’d lost count of how many times he’d dreamt this; he got up and went to the bathroom, splashed water on his face. When he got back into bed the heat was still oppressive, but Kiko rolled over and wrapped his arms around him, relaxing him enough to fall back asleep again.

When he noticed Kiko waking Dom did the same for him. They’d both wanted a good night’s rest but got choppy sleep, each in their own private mental horror. Even the couple extra hours sleeping in didn’t seem to completely make up for it, but at least they were together.

“What’s in yours?” asked Kiko, barely moving under Dom’s arm. So he was awake. Based on his breathing, he had been for a while. Dom considered lying or joking.

“An endless maze, no sky. His eyes everywhere.”
