“You called your mother, right, Chad?” he asked as he stood. Chad shrugged.

“You’re taking me home now,” he said. Kiko didn’t bother to argue. Police Chief Gordon intercepted them on the way to Dom’s car.

“Thanks for the tip,” he said, pulling up his pants. “Will be damned glad to turn the FBI around the moment they drive into Mount Angus.” He grinned.

“I’m glad you have good aim,” said Dom, and Gordon’s face hardened.

“You boys need to stay out of situations like this,” he said, pronouncing it “shituations.” Kiko was grateful Chad wasn’t paying enough attention to find it funny. “Heroes die young. You got a theory, next time call us.”

“Understood,” said Kiko before Dom could open his mouth and explain that they had been trying to get people out of the maze, not confront Bobby. It wouldn’t matter.
