Chapter 35

“You’re making this shit up,” I told him, blown away by his facts and knowledge of the land’s once-people.

“Swear to God.” He raised his right hand to the heavens and a flock of sparrows that zoomed overhead, traveling west.

I was just about to hug out our disagreement when Colby left out a whoop of excitement and exited the mouth of the cave.

He yelled, “I found an arrowhead!” He came running at us, presenting an arrow-shaped piece of stone with smooth edges. He passed the stone to his father and asked, “Sergeant Brae, what do you think of this? Is it a real arrowhead?”

Dugan thumbed the stone, spun it around in his right palm, and played Colby’s game with him. “It could be. Not sure. We might have to take it back to Professor Looksalot for a better analysis. Something tells me it just might be.”
