“All right. Thank you for talking to me,” John said, getting up. “If you remember anything else, no matter how insignificant it seems, please call me immediately.”
“I will.” Tom nodded then went back to his breakfast, what was left of it, asking as he did, “If there’s any more sausage…?” He looked hopefully at Carol. “And eggs.”
The last thing John heard as he left the house was Carol telling him there was, and Maggie saying, “You really should go lie down again. You can eat when you wake up. You look, pardon the expression, like death warmed over.”
