Chapter 26

They left Cody waiting for his order and went into the kitchen.

“We’re going on break,” Noah told Arik. “Do you want me to check some of those buildings again?”

“Thanks for offering, but no. John and I are going to this afternoon.” He looked at Ewan. “Well, we are if you give me the list.”

“Damn. Sorry.” Ewan dug it out of his pocket, handing it to him.

“Thanks. Now go get off your feet while you can.” Arik said, looking at the two of them. “And that does not mean go to bed for a quickie.”

Noah turned bright red, much to the other men’s amusement. Then he and Ewan left.

“Here and reporting for duty,” John said as he walked into the kitchen of the diner a few minutes after Noah and Ewan returned from their break. “I told my men I was going to do a thorough check on any houses that are vacant at the moment because families are on vacation. After what happened to the mayor at Ms. Miller’s place they didn’t question why I want to do that.”
