Chapter 39

Bond bit back a laugh at her characterization of the wealthy, charming, and evidently privileged physician. His granddaddy had built this hospital, and the rumor mill said the arrogant Marshall often used that legacy to strong arm the board into changes he wanted. One of them being that he could bump another doctor’s scheduled surgery for his own.

It hadn’t happened to Bond yet, but he’d seen pediatric surgeon Ollie Nordstrom tear into Marshall one morning.

“What the hell, Marshall. Your patient can have the bags under her eyes done any time.” He pounded his patient’s name on the scheduling board with an index finger. “This is a sick little girl, who has chronic bouts of tonsillitis. We can’t continue pumping her full of antibiotics, and I can only remove her tonsils and adenoids when she’s infection free, which is rare. This was one of the rare times, and you’ve bumped her for someone who can wait.”
