Chapter 61

“Are we just gonna ignore each other all week?” Lex asked Trent as the two cowboys got their horses tacked up for the calf roping competition, the first of the three events for this week’s All-Around buckle.

Trent tightened and tied off the cinch on Dixie’s saddle before turning to face Lex. “I thought I explained the way it is to ya the other day,” he said, leaning against his horse with one arm draped over her neck.

“That don’t mean we can’t be friends, does it?”

Trent walked back to the stall door, took Dixie’s bridle off the rack, and undid the rope that tied her to the hitching post. He took off his horse’s halter and slid it over his shoulder and slipped the bridle over her head, easing the bit into her mouth.

“Well?” Lex said.

“Well, shit!” Trent said, reaching out and hanging the halter on the rack.
