Chapter 4

“Um. Okay,” I replied, not sure how else to respond. And I needed to get back to work. I was in the middle of a piece and it felt so good to be painting something worthwhile again, I wanted to return as soon as possible.

“Sorry, I hope I’m not embarrassing you.” Was she always this perky? Did it hurt?

“No, just wondering what the hell you want.” My tone might have been a bit curt, and seeing the wounded look on her face, I sighed. I was becoming a growling bear. “I just mean, was there something you needed?”

She became perky again. “Actually, yes! I know you’re still settling in, but I wondered if you’d be interested in giving some classes here. We have them throughout the week, and someone of your caliber would be a great addition to our roster.”

Huh? “You want me to…teach people how to do paint by numbers?” She couldn’t be serious.
