And then my jaw dropped when I saw the rainbow float and the marchers waving flags and smiling at the crowd. Almost deafening cheers went up from the people around me, making Dali startle. It wasn’t anything like what I’d seen in San Francisco or Atlanta, but it was memorable all the same

Perhaps things hadchanged here, but it was still a shock. I looked around but didn’t see anyone with picket signs and a Bible. Definitely not what I’d expected.

“Kayle?” I turned my head to see Laura, the manager from Michaels, standing on my left, a little boy in her arms and a girl toddler on the ground holding onto her mother’s skirt. Laura was even smiling at me. Apparently she didn’t hold my asshole behavior the last time we’d seen each other against me.

“Laura,” I replied, rubbing Dali’s ears. The dog’s tail was wagging as he caught sight of more people he could slobber over.
