Chapter 35

When Kord had popped the last of the pie into this mouth and slurped some coffee, Doyle went over to the counter and spoke to a woman there.

“She’ll be right over,” he said as he returned to the table.

Before he had a chance to get settled, an older woman, hardened by years of dealing with the diner crowd, with a map of wrinkles on her face, arrived and scooched onto the seat with Kord presumably so she could face Doyle.

“Ma’am,” Doyle said. “I appreciate you taking some time for us.”

“Anything for the boys in blue. I might not be here if it wasn’t for you guys.”

“Like I said when I asked you to speak with us, we’re reopening the bashing case of a couple of years ago.”

“Good. A shame that no one was ever caught. But, as much as I like you guys, some of you…Well, let’s just say that the two dicks on this case the first time, didn’t do a good job. We can leave it at that. Maybe you two will do what they didn’t.”

“What do you remember from that time?”
