Chapter 57

He had to smoke them out again. Morgan had shown himself twice already. One more time and Doyle might figure out the best way to corner him.

Silently he moved around the walls of the warehouse, the air filled with dust motes. He needed to keep Al talking so he could move toward the voice. Then…then he’d figure out what to do.

“You still there, McCann?”

Doyle kept moving and stalling for time.

“McCann?”

“I’m here.”

“You understand what I need?”

“Yeah. Tryin’ to figure out how to get it.” Doyle thought of another stall. “They’re gonna wanna know why you want Nino. He’s not involved in this and they’re not gonna want to put another hostage in your hands.”

“Shit. Are you that dumb? Why do you think I want him? Him and me…”

“I know that but they’re not gonna go for it unless I give them a better reason.”

“His father. You know who he is?” Morgan asked.

“Who doesn’t?”
