“Let’s just say the odds are good it was.” Jonah leaned forward, his gaze piercing. “Very good, actually. As Ken pointed out, you made it inside without our detecting you.”

“Then how did you know I was in here?”

“We were waiting for you. We knew you’d try. If you were who we hoped, and as good as your reputation says you are, then you would probably succeed. If you were someone else, here for a different reason, you’d either set off the system, or if you knew what you were doing—well, you’d be dead now. We didn’t have guns as window decoration.”

Sean snorted softly. “Didn’t think you did. What made you decide, when you walked in on me, that I was just a burglar?”

“I doubt a person sent here to kill us would take the time to look over my collection of rare books,” Jonah replied, smiling.

“Good point I suppose.” Sean stood, beginning to pace.
