Chapter 86

“I think,” Sean said quietly. “I think I’m going to take them up on their offer. I’ve got nothing to lose when it comes down to it, except my freedom to go where I want, when I want. And, if I’m going to be honest, I’m beginning to get tired of never having any roots—or friends.”

“They’re downstairs,” Janice told Sean when he asked. “Use the stairs behind the door to your left when you get into the hallway. It’s unlocked now.”

“It usually isn’t?”

“Not unless someone’s down there.” She giggled. “Which to be honest is most of the time since Ken virtually lives down there when he’s here.”

Following her directions, Sean went downstairs. From a first glance, it was just an average basement.

“We’re in here,” Ken called out.
