“And if I break it, I end up buried in some landfill?”
Jonah just grinned.
“Got it. I can deal. So…what now?”
“We have three training compounds. I think…” Jonah tapped his fingers together pensively. “The one out west would be the best fit for you. The man who runs it is tough, but he knows what he’s doing and how to get you up to speed fairly quickly.”
“Will I be able to bring Pax with me?”
“I don’t see why not. You and Ken will leave in the morning.”
Sean shot a surprised look at Ken. “Why you? Babysitting me?”
“I wish. Jonah thinks I need to brush up on my skills. Like I said, on rare occasions I do go out in the field. It helps if I can take care of myself and it’s been a while since I’ve had to test that.”
“At least I’ll have someone I know out there.” 4
The ride from the airport to the compound gave Sean a chance to revisit—visually—an area he’d been in three years before. He wondered, when they drove by a large home he’d burglarized, if Ken knew.
