Chapter 96

Sean swung around to see Ken leaning casually against the doorframe. “Us working together until this job is over.”

“We’re doing that, but somehow I think that’s not what you meant.” Ken stepped into the room, smiling slightly as he said, “I’m an interesting man?”

“How long were you eavesdropping?” Sean asked angrily.

“Only for a second. I came up to tell you I’ve got soup and sandwiches made. I figured lighter was better, if your nerves are as tangled as mine.” He eyed Sean questioningly.

“Fuck,” Sean growled.

“Might not be a bad idea, all things considered.”

“Don’t.”

“Why not?” Ken came closer.

“Because we said, you said, we weren’t going to…”

“Do anything until we got to know each other better. It was you who said it, not me.” Ken stared at Sean for a long moment before starting to leave. “Lunch is ready.”

“Screw lunch.” Sean grabbed Ken’s arm. “It can wait.”
