Chapter 5

As cute as Marty might be, no way was Rick interested. The guy had a Pokémon tattoo, for the love of God. It was bad enough Rick had to listen to his son talk about that nonsense; he didn’t need to date someone who went on and on about it, too.

Micah stayed in line with Marty, the two of them chatting like best buds. Rick caught snippets of their conversation, but it meant nothing to him. Any hope he may have harbored that Marty was humoring his son went out the window when they started comparing stats, debating which Pokémon were better in battle. Marty would name a creature and, after thinking a minute, Micah picked an opponent, then they’d rattle off attacks until one or the other of them called a KO.

Dungeons and Dragons for the modern age,Rick thought, shaking his head. Only there’s no dice in sight. Don’t they know how silly they look?
