Chapter 22

Time to go live.

Armed with Marty’s login information, Rick accessed his web host account page and set up the MySQL database that would provide the backbone of the store. Once that was in place, he began uploading all the files from his computer to Marty’s server, careful to put them in a subdirectory so they wouldn’t overwrite the current web pages displayed on the site. He wanted time to get everything in place and working on Marty’s site, which would include importing at least some of the items Marty hoped to sell online, before the webstore went live. By installing it in a subdirectory, he could figure out the variables he needed to run it on Marty’s server without running the risk of anyone erroneously trying to buy something while he was still working on the code, or having to put the whole site into maintenance mode for an extended length of time.
