Chapter 24

Out loud, he called, “You coming? This pizza’s hot.”

With a sigh, Micah started, “Where—”

“I told you I’d take you to the comic shop, didn’t I?” Rick nodded up the sidewalk in the direction he was headed. As it dawned on Micah where they were, his face slowly lit up. Rick shook his head and grinned. “Well, come on.”

The car door slammed as Micah raced after him. “I thought you said Friday?” he cried, skirting the corner and jumping over the edge of the curb to take a look down the block. When he saw the door to the comic shop, he squealed with delight. “There’s Pikachu in the window! Pikachu!”

“Some big yellow thing turns you on,” Rick said with a laugh. “Yes, I get it. Can we get moving? My hands are starting to burn here…”

Micah ran ahead, grabbed the door handle in passing, and let his momentum carry him past the door. Then he swung back and, opening the door wide, disappeared into the shop.

“Hello?” Rick called out. “A little help here? What’d you do, forget about me?”
