Chapter 26

Saturday afternoon, I decided to go the gym where I took spin classes during the week. I ran on the treadmill for half an hour as I watched Damien, one of the trainers, guiding a patron through her routine.

Metallica played in the background. I remembered Kenny telling me once that Damien was a die-hard, old school heavy metal fan. I didn’t mind it, myself. I just had to be in the mood. When I was done with my routine, I cleaned up and stopped by the front desk.

“How’s it going, Kenny?” I asked.

He smiled. “Great. I have a fifty-mile bike race tomorrow. Should be a blast.” Kenny was a bike nut, aside from the classes he taught.

“I’m sure you’ll do fine. How’s Cypher?”

Cypher Tremonte was his boyfriend.

“Fantastic.” That kind of smile would inspire me to move mountains for my boyfriend, if I had one.

“Happy to hear it.” I adjusted my bag strap. “I’m gonna go. See you next week.”

“Hey, you okay? I don’t ever see you on the weekends.”
