Chapter 25

The reference to my looks hurt, but I was insulted more by what he had done and how he’d gone about it. I knew they wanted to see me break, but I wouldn’t give them the satisfaction.

“I’m glad you enjoyed yourself then.” I leaned in to kiss his cheek and stepped back. “I hope you can find another ass as tight as mine, though it might be difficult.” I gave a sunny little wave and walked sedately back to the bar. No one was laughing anymore.

Bruce came up to me after serving another customer. “I’m sorry, hon. I wanted to tell you, but I had to…”

I waved away his distress. “It’s okay. I appreciate your concern. Give me another Guinness, okay?”

I spent the rest of the night dancing by myself, letting the music and alcohol flow through me before stumbling toward a taxi and heading home. Fuck those morons. I didn’t need them bringing me down. I’d be hurt for a little while, but I’d get over it. I wasn’t named after sunshine for nothing.
