“Took a long time to get there,” I said. “What about you?”

He shrugged. “I own this place, every last crumbling bit of it. Kelly, my late husband, was my partner in the business.” He said it matter-of-factly, but I heard the gravity behind his words

“It’s nice,” I offered, looking around at the tasteful furnishings and taking in the happy vibe of the customers. “I’ve heard good things about it.” Sonny and Bruce visited often.

“Thanks. Is this your first time here?” he asked.

“Yes. I usually go straight home after work rather than hang out. Maybe I’m too old and set in my ways.”

“Nothing wrong with that, as long as you’re open to something new every once in a while.”

“Perhaps.” I drank some tea. “So you wanted to meet me here. Why, Trenton?” I queried, getting right to the point.
